1999 White House Conference on Philanthropy/
Youth Giving Project

This initiative grew out of the November 1999 White House Conference on Philanthropy, which showcased Michigan Youth Advisory Councils (YACs) and included presentations by youth YAC members. Representatives of the White House Millennium Council and the First Lady’s staff continued to work with funders and others to shape this initiative. The Youth Giving Project was announced in the President’s November 25, 2000 weekly radio address.

In Spring 2000, the Michigan Community Foundations’ Youth Project (MCFYP) conducted a census that revealed more than 250 youth-as-grantmakers programs in 30 states. To find information about youth philanthropy programs in your area, search the Youth Grantmakers Database at http://www.mcfyp.org.
