Youth Philanthropy
Youth Philanthropy Alliance
In late 2000, the Coalition of Community Foundations for
Youth was invited by several private funders and the Clinton
White House to help launch a national effort to promote youth
philanthropy. Through the Youth Philanthropy Alliance:
- The Coalition of Community Foundations for Youth is working
with a national advisory group to assemble a youth philanthropy
best practices resource that will make available information
on youth grantmaking program models, curricula, training, community
assessment, evaluation methods and TA providers. Building on
already existing resources and youth philanthropy intermediaries,
this activity will lead to a product that will highlight and
describe practices in the field, provide a framework for considering
options, and steer users to available resources. This information
will be made available in both written and web-based formats
and is expected to be available in early 2002.
- Pending funding from several national foundations, youth
philanthropy initiatives will be established in several
regions of the country selected by the funders creating
or expanding dozens of youth-led philanthropy programs in
each region to help build a culture of youth engagement in
giving. The first regional initiative is being launched in
2001 in the Washington, D.C. area.
The Coalition gratefully acknowledges grant support from the
Ewing Marion Kauffman, Charles Stewart Mott, and David and Lucile
Packard foundations and America Online.
